P. Vuglar, W. Morrison, J. Rackham, a,nd K. L. Slyfiejd. Owing to the unavoidable absence of the secretary (Mr J. M. Crosby) Mr Slyfleld acted as secretary. EXTRA MATCHES SOUGHT. The East Club wrote asking for permission for its junior team to travel to Thames to- play the Physical -Training team on September 4. Permission was also sought to pl,ay ; a, match against Waikino at Paeroa on Saturday next. The applications were granted. Mr Rackham intimated that there was a likelihood of the Karajhgahake team travelling to Tauranga on Saturday next, but the arrangements had not been finalised. < SUCCESS OF JUNIORS. Commenting on the success gained by the Paeroa juniors in winning the Sharebrokers’ Cup, Mr Slyfield said that a great deaj of that success was due to the enthusiasm and painstaking methods, of the selector, Mr T. M. Wilkinson, t,p whom grea,t credit was due; He moved that the committee record its thanks and appreciation, of Mr Wilkinson’s efforts. Seconded by Mr Rackham. The chairman supported the previous remarks and said that critics ha.d stated that local junior fqotball had reached a very satisfactory standard. MANAGERS’ REPORTS. Reporting on the Ngatea-Paeroa match of last Saturday Mr Slyfleld said that the visitors had brought a really good teiam, and- the conduct of the players had been exemplary. Ngatea was desirous of obtaining a return match this season if it could be arranged. The club also hoped to enter a team for the Sharebrokers’ Cup n®xt year. _ Mr Vuglar reported on the Paeroa,Thames match, which he said had been played in the friendliest ef spirits. The better team won, but Paeroa had been unlucky on several occasions, and the team had been weakened by the loss, of W. Taylor, who was injured in the early stages of the game. He could not speak too highly -of the hospitality of the Thames Union officials. The chairman reported favourably on the behaviour of the local) thirdgrade team that travelled to Waihi, as also did Mfr Rackham on the Pae-roa-Waihi match. JUNIOR TOURING TEAM. Mr Rackham asked, on behalf of the Karangahake Club, what were the prospects of sending a junior team to Rotorua this season, and the- probable cost.
The- chairman said that when the union sent the senior team each player had deposited the sum of £2, and the Rotorua Union allowed the local union 75 per cent, of the gate receipts. If the gate receipts had been sufficient to meet the expenses a refund of the deposit would have been made to the players.
Mr Rackham said that he thought the union should make d.ri earnest endeavour to send a junior team on tour. A kind dt "half-pie” promise had beten made earlier in the season that a should be sent, and in view of the winning of the Sharebrokers* Cup he would like to see the project carried into effect. He asked that if the team undertook to And £l5 towards the expenses could the union manage the balance; Messrs Slyfield ahd Morrison supported the remarks of the previous speaker. The chairman said that he would very much like to see the juniors travel, but pointed out that the union was not prepared to get into debt over the tour. Probably towards the end of September the firtances of the union
would be stronger. After some discussion it was resolved to defer the matter for a fortnight, the. secretary in the meantime to write to the Rotorua union to see if a, match could be arianged early in October, and also to ascertain what proportion of the gate receipts would be allowed the Paeroa union.
