EXPLOSION ON LAUNCH.
CREW BLOWN INTO WATER.
ALL REACH SHORE SAFELY.

While engaged in working on the well-known towjng launch Etaima on thei Northern Wairoa River, five young men, H. Stanaway, S. Fatt, W. Stanawti.y, W. Pook, and W. Samuels, had a narrow escape of losing their livesThey were in the vicinity of the Mangonui River when they experienced engine trouble and stopped the engine to make an investigation. While doing this; an explosion took place which blewi all the men out of the boat into the river. After the. explosion the launch took fire and eventually sank. The men, who are all, fortunately, good swimmers, were able to re.a.ch the river bank, and beyond the loss of their personal effects and undergoing an unpleasant expedience, suffered little harm. The launch, which was a total loss, belonged to the Tangowahine Sawmilling Co. It was insured with the N.Z. Insurance Co. for £3OO, but the owner's’ estimate that thejr loss is fully £2OO above the insurahac.
