OPENING CROWN LANDS.
KEREPEEHI TOWN AREAS.
ACTION NOT YET WARRANTED.
The question of opening up for selection the Crown Land near the, Kerepeehi township has been the subject ot representations between the Ratepayers’ Association and the member for the district, Mr A. M. Samuel, In reply to Mr Samuel the Minister of Lands, the Hon. A. D. McLeod, has, written as follows :— “With reference to the representations made through you by the secretary of the Kerepeehi Ratepayers) Association, I have now to advise having a report from the Chief Drainage Engineer in regard to some of the matters raised.
“So far ajs concerns the Crown lands available for disposition, these are situated in Block VI., Waihou survey district, adjoining the Kerepeehi township, and are being develclped for settlement purposes. The land, however, is not sufficiently drained for selection.
“In connection with the land referred to as suitable for subdivision into building sections, it is stated that the township of Kerepeehi is already sufficiently large for any actual requirements in the way of subdivision, and any additional areas opened now would probably only be purchased for speculative purposes. It, therefore, appears that the time is not opportune for disposing of the town lands, which should be held and ma.de available after the adjoining farm lands have been disposed of. “The question of metalling is one being dealt with by the Public Works Department, and representations have been made to that office in connection with the matter.”
