LICENSING COMMITTEE.

ADJOURNED ANNUAL MEETING. THE MORRINSVILLE APPLICATION The adjourned annual meeing of the Ohinemuri Licensing Committee was held at Paeroa to-day. In the absence of the. chairmaji, Mr J. H. Salmon, S.M., ph account Of illness, Mr W. J. Towers, was appointed to preside. Meinbeis o¥ the committee present were Messrs P. ®- Brena.n, W. M. Wallnutt, F. W. Walters, and W- Marshall. COMMERCIAL HOTEL, WAIHL Mr E. J- Clendon appeared on behalf of Mr Kelly, one of the applicants for the license of the Commercial Hcltel, Waihi, ajid applied for and was granted an adjournment to enable the two applicants to confer and possibly obviate the necessity of a contest. . After a conference between Messrs H. D. Haszard and J • Kelly a license was granted to the former, Mr Kelly withdrawing his. STERLING HOTEL. Amended plans for the Sterling Hotel, Waihi, were submitted by Mr E. W. Porritt. Mr B. Franklin, health inspector, testified that the plajis met with the approval of his department. After the plans had been explained to’the committee by the builder the chairman said that they had been approved and the erection, could proceed. Mr Porritt said that the building would be completed about December. MORRINSVILLE APPLICATION. Mr E. W. Porritt appeared for the applicant, Mrs M. B’ Montgomery; Mr Towle for the memorialists, Reynolds and 25 others ; and Mr McGregor for the memorialists, Johnson and 17 others. Inspector Willis formally objected o<n two celunts. Mr Towle pointed out that there would be considerable legal argument, and asked whether the Bench proposed to, adjourn until its chairman, Mr Salmon, was present. Mr McGregor asked if the adjourned sitting could be held at Morrinsville. A large number of witnesses, desired to be heard.

The chairman stated that this weiuld not suit Mr Salmoin, who had to be present at Paeroa on Monday next. The hearing would therefore be adjourned for a week.
