HAUBAKI PLAINS UNION. MEETING OF COMMITTEE. The management committee o£ the Hauraki Plains Rugby Uniptn met at Ngatea on Tuesday evening, Mr JCostello presiding over the following : Messrs A. H. McClean, H. L. Bqinej, H. Dent, C. Bertelsen, J. H. Nichols.on, W. Thompson, and AV. Wylde, secretary. . PAEROA MATCH. The Paeroa Rugby Union wrote asking if the Poland Cup match set down for August 21 could be played on September 4, a.s the Paeroa Unioln desired to play Thames for the Peace Cup oil the former- date. —Granted. / JUNIOR CUP FINAL. It was decided that the NgateaKerepeehi junior cup final, match be played as a curtain-raiser to thePoland Cup match against Waihi on August 14. SCHOOL GRANT. The Thames Valley Rugby Union forwarded a cheque for £3 15s, being the union’s proportion of the N.Z. Rugby Union's .allocation tor the. assistance of school football. The secretary reported thfit the previous season’s grant was not yet distributed, as owing toi the number of schools on the Plains it was customary to hold the grants for two yea,rs to have sufficient to give each school a football. It was decided to distribute the grants at the beginning of next season. THANKS. The Thames Rugby Union wrote on behalf df he team and the union expressing thanks’ for the hospitality extended during the visit to 1 Ngateaon Saturday, July 24, and expressing the hope that the. gate receipts were satisfactory. SELECTION OF. TEAM. A letter, was 'received from the Turua Football Club a.dvising that at a general meeting on July 26 the; action of the selectors in passing ovei- the players selected as emergencies forthe Thames match and the playing of men not selected had been adversely criticised. The club strongly protested against such actions, and wished to know ff it met with the ■approval of the union. Mr A. H. McClean, one of .the selectors, explained that owing to the no'n-arrival of the Patetonga players until very late, and also on account of the fact that players wandered away from the dressing-rdom. or did not put in an apparance until sought for, there was some confusion. It was regretted that the incident had occurred.
Members agreed that the incident was 'regrettable and instructed the secretary to write to the Turua club accordingly. As a means of checking confusion at further matches it was decided that players who were, not present in the dressing-room ten. mniutes before the advertised time, of commencing representative matches be deemed to
be unavailable for the match. FINANCE. The secretary reported th.at the receipts ’for the season to date totalled £ll7 12s sd, and the payments £99 5 s 4>d. Accounts, totalling £6 2s 8d were passed for payment, the account of the Ngatea Hall Committee for ha.H hire at the rate- of 12s 6d for meetings and 10s for as a dressing-room being held elver. The secretary was instructed to write the Hall Committee and ask for a reduction in the rate, and point out that the rate at Tiirua. and Waitakaruru was -only 5s a night for meetings, while the privately owned hall at Kerepeehi was available at 3s 'a, night. A claim for £3 10s travelling expenses to representative matches was disallclwed, the union having provided a bus from the player’s club town and not being in the habit of paying for the transportation of players from their homes to their club centre.
