COLLISION WITH ROLLER
PAEROA MOTORIST’S MISHAP. CLAIM AGAINST COUNTY COUNCIL At yesterday’s 1 meeting of the Ohinemuri County Council an Auckland insurance company made a claim for £l6 18s 4d for damage done to' a car by colliding with the council’s steam-roller. The company alleged that the roller was parked on the wrong of .the Paeroa-Te Aroha main roa.d, and that .the clearance between the roller and .the side of the Triad was only ten feet. The engineer (Mr E. Shaw) explained that the roller, when working on the roadside, had struck a soft patch and had become embedded. The machine wia.s letPt on the roadside from Saturday till Monday. Cayeful measurements showed that there was a clearance of 12 , ft. When extricating the roller from its position on Monday a large motomlorry carrying a bulky load of furniture got passed safely, with room to spare. There were als.o several motor-car*?, including one driven by the district stipendiary magistrate, which passed the roller comfortably. It was understood that the collision had occurred about 4 o’clock in the atJferhoon, and the car was; a Ford, driven by Mrs H. M. Niven, of PaerbKCr. W. F. Johnstone said that i'f a person could hot drive past in .the space, that there was, in broad daylight it was a pity. After a brief dislcussion it was resolved to advise the company that the council refused tri accept any liability for the collision.
