DISTRICT NEWS.

TUEUA. FOOTBALLER HONOURED. A very pleasant social evening was spent by .a la;rge number of Turua and district residents in the Victoria Hall on Monday evening at a 'function arranged by members, of the Turua Football Club and other friends in honour of Mr Keith Fax, club captain, who on Wednesday was married to Miss K. Miller, of Kopuarahi. The function proved to be one of the most enjoyable ever held in the district. An enthusiastic committee of ladies had decorated the building and set tables for 120 guests, achieving an effect with bright lights, innumerable flowers, shining silver, sparkling wine glasses, and paper, decorations in theblack and white of the club colplurs that won the admiration of .alt Mr F. Stevens, president of the club, presided. After the- loyal toast had been honoured an item was contributed by the Turua Orchestra, followed by a song by Mr A. H. Sutton. The tpiast of “The Turua Football Club” was, proposed by Mr W. Madgwick and responded to by Mi - C. Scott. Items on string instruments were given by the .Hawaiian Trio, Messrs N. Strong, J. Clayton, and A. Auburn, followed by-a toast of “The Rugby Referees,” proposed by Mr R. D. Macklow and responded to by Mr F. Clptworthy. Mr A. Walker contributed songs and Mr A. Auburn soime violin solos beifore the toast of “Kindred Sports” was honoured at the request Pf Mr J. C. Mille-. After Mr F. C. Robinson had responded a duet was contributed by Mrs A. Walker and Mr J. H. Johnston, the latter also singing several solos. “The Ladies” Was proposed by Mr J. H. Johnston, and was responded to by Messrs G. Elvin, A. Charteris, R. Madgwick, and Eh Johnstin. During the evening there was also community singing, led by Mr A. Sutton. A presentation to Mr Fox of a leather portmanteau was made by the. chairman, and the function concluded with a dance.
