Although there have been several cases of pneumonic-influenza, heavy colds, accompanied by high temperatures, are ruling generality, and a great raajiy people are confined to their homes, through these causes. An assurance is given, however, that there is no reason, tej be alarmed at the position, so long as persons contracting colds- follow the ordinal y precautions and remain indoors for some time alfter the temperature becomes normal. The recent spell of wet weather has added to the number of people suffering with colds, which are usually fairly general at this time of the ye,ar. The attendance at the local high school has been seriousjy affected during the past few days. In the secondary department this mornihg Only 25 pupils out of 41 answered the roll call, while in the primary department 139 children were absent this morning.
At Tirohia it is understood that there have been several cases of the more s.erious form of influenza. Owing to the schoolmaster (Mr E. Pendergast) and two of his children ccntra'cting the malady the school was closed all the week before last, and wap only opened for odd days last week. The headmatser has since returned to duty, but his assistant is now laid up. There was an attendance of 16 out of 40-od'd pupils yesterday morning.
Parents with children suffering with colds are. acting wisely in keeping them from school during the wet weather.
