FATALITY AT TURUA.
WOMAN JUMPS FROM RUNAWAY.
VICTIM SUCCUMBS TO INJURIES.
The death occurred at the Thames Hospital last evening of Mrs Bond, wife ot Mr Samuel Bond, farmer, of Hopai West Roa,d, as the r®s,ult of an accident at Gumtown Road, near Turua, on Saturday afternoon, It appears that Mr and Mrs Bond had driven in a gig to a farm on the Gumtown road earlier in the afternoon. When leaving they both got into the vehicle without undoing the wheel strap. Mr Bond immediately got out of the gig and unfastened the strap, when, on finding the vehicle moved freely, the horse bolted. Pursuing the runaway, Mr Bond managed to get up with it before it had gone far, and made a grab at the winkers with the idea of pulling the horse up, but the winkers broke and came away in his hand. He called to his wife to jump out, and this she did, but in the effort to dq so she landed heavily on her head and was rendered unconscious.
Dr. Lange, of Turua, was, called, and he conveyed the sufferer to the Thames Hospital as quickly as possible. ■ An examination at the institution disclosed that Mrs Bond had! received a badly fractured skull, and the brain was lacerated. Mrs Bond never regained consciousness, and passed away at 6.30 o’clock last evening.
It is thought that possibly Mrs Bond struck the roadside tramway rails as she fell.
Deceased leaves- a family of six children, whose eges 'range from 20 to 5 years. At the present time the eldest son is an inmate of the Waikato Hospital, recovering frblm an operation for appendicitis.
