STOCK SALE.

LARGE YARDING AT PAEROA. RULING PRICES OBTAIN. After a lapse of many months an effort has been made to resuscitate the holding of stock sales at Paeroa. The work of organising the sale was left in the hands of Mr N. Beattier of Paeroa, and that he left no stone unturned to make it a success was exemplified on Monday, when over 300 head of some sheep, and three houses were offered by public auction. In conversation with one of the Auctioneering Company’s officials after the sale lie expressed the opinion tha ; t the result of the sale fully justified the holding of stock sales at Paeroa at regular in.terva.ls. Once outside buyers could be induced to overcome- a sdrt of natural prejudice against buying stock at Paeroa and regard it as a convenient centre, much would be overcome. Local butchers, too, would also find that there was no reason why they could not buy good beef practically at their own doors, instead of having to g 6 farther abroad for it.

Fortunately the day was fine, and there was a large attendance df. vendors and purchasers from all parts of the district. Ruling prices obtained for most of the cattle, and a number of lines tha,t were not sold at auction were later purchased privately. There was a good demahd for dairy cows, and such animals that were nea,r profit changed- hands at satisfactory prices. There was a good demand for cattle carrying anything like goby condition. The following will give an indication of the prices that ruled : Best dairy cows, clos.e to profit, £7 10s to £l2 5s ; good forward cows, £5 10s to £7 7s ; backward cows, £3 10’s to £4 15s; best quality springing heifers, £8 5s to £l2; sffiall and backward heifers, £5 to £'s 10s; !fat cows, £5 10s to £6 ; fresh conditioned cows, £3 12s, 6d to £4 17s 6d ; poor conditioned empty cows, 30s to 35s ; emptj r heifers, £2 to £2 12s 6d ; well-grown heifer calves, 355, smaller 20s to 30s; good steer calves £2 ss. Forwardconditioned ewes brought 19s.
