LICENSE TO SELL MEAT.
REPORT OF HEALTH INSPECTOR.
BOROUGH COUNCIL DISCUSSION.
The question of licensing premises for tlie retail sale of meat wa& introduced at the meeting of the Paeroa Borough Council last night when JBertelsen applied for a license to permit him to store and retail meat at his premises in Queen Street. Tlie Mayor (Mr W. Marshall) intimated that the health inspector had stated that the building did not comply with the regulations. Cr. J. Pinder said that he could not understand why the building had not been approved of by the health inspector when on previous occasions the chief health inspector had passed the premises-. Cr. Pinder said that it savoured very much as if there was an element of spite about the' whole matter.
Cr. E. A, Porritt said that the inspector had his regulations to guide him at arriving at a. decision. The Mayor said he did not think that a councillor had any grounds to suggest spite. The inspector was straightforward, unbiased, courteous, and certainly knew his work. It was the duty of the council to support its health inspector.
It was resolved that the letter be formally referred to the health inspector, and that when a favourable report was received a license be issued at an annual fee of £l, and that all other shops otf a. similar nature be brought under the same conditions.
