A slight mishap occurred to the lifting gear of the Piakp River bridge a,t Ngatea on Tuesday. As the central span was being lowered four teeth on one of the small cogwheels of the down-stream winch broke. This caused one side df the span to fall a few ipches, resulting in it becoming twisted. The bridge is quite safe,, but a,t present the lifting span is not resting evenly on the eastern end and planks have beqn placed to ease vehicles up the six-inch’ step.
