PIAKO RIVER WHARVES.
MATTER BEFORE COUNCIL. CONSIDERATION DEFERRED. At the.: meeting yesterday of the Ha.uraki Plains County Council the chairman (Cr. E. L, Walton) reported that he and Cr. May>n had interviewed Mr O. N. Campbell, Chief Drainage Engineer,, in regard to the Piako River wharves. The engineer ha.d not agreed to recommejid a reduction in price or to hand over less than fne. whole number of wharves. Mr Walton had then Mr Campbell to consider three questions. These were : (1) To reduce the price ; (2) to undertake legislation giving the- County Council power to collect dues oh all goods' arrived into or shipped from the river; and 1 (3) to .put all the wharves in working*order. Mr Campbell was considering these questions, and in the meantime the clerk was ascertaining the position in other pki.ces where county councils controlled wharves. It was agreed to defer further consideration until a reply had been received to the questions.
