OBITUARY.

MR. WILLIAM WALTON OTTEB. The death occurred at, Auckland on Wednesday last, in his 73rd year, of Mr William Walton Otter. The deceased was born at Cais,tor, Lincolnshire, in 19,53, 'a,nd came to New Zealand with his parents in the Matoka, arriving in September, 1859. He received his education at Auckland, and later removed with his parents to Alexandria. In the early days of the Thajnes the family took up residence in that town, where the deceased lived until his return to Auckland 25 years ago. During his residence at Thames.' the late Mr Otter took a keen interest in public affairs, being a member of the Thames County Council, Hospital Board, and other local, bodies. Up to 1885 he was engaged in. mining, then entered business as a, storekeeper in Franklin Street, Block 27. Since going to Auckland he was a moving spirit in ,the Old Thames Boys’ Association, holding the Office of vicepresidept at the time of his, demise. He was a Mason of long standing, being a member of Lodge Sir Walter .Thames. He was also a member and trustee of the LoyaJ Waikato Lodge of Oddfellows. The late Mr Otter leaves a grown-up family of four sons, Messrs. W. W. Otter (Edendale), A. E. Otter (Eureka), F. G. Otter (Paeroa), and R. A. Otter (Waitakaruru), and four daughters, Mesdames A. Nixon (Newmarket,), T. Carrick (Onehunga,),' F. Waters (Ellerslie), and E. B. Petherick (Otorohanga), and twenty-four grandchildren.

The interment took place at Thames on Saturday afternoon, the cortege including Masonic and Oddfellows Brethren, and members of the Old Thames Boys’ Association.
