NEW FORM OF INFLUENZA
PREVALENT IN WELLINGTON. A PNEUMONIC TYPE. WELLINGTON, June 12. This week has seen the development of a very unpleasant form of influenza, the result of which is that many city office and warehouse staffs have been depleted. The mala,dy begins with a sudden cold, followed by flooding of the eyes and the nose, and then attacks the chest, causing a hacking cough and great weakness, with a tendency to develop ntio pneumonia unless it is properly cared for. It is stated that, despite official reports to the contrary, a, very serious form of influenza has been prevalent in Sidney and Melbourne, and that during the three prior to* June 3, there were 36 deaths in Sydney attributable to the influenza.
