INFLUX OF ASIATICS.

CONTROL OF ADMITTANCE; PLAINS COUNTY COUNCIL’S VIEWS Tlie White New Zealand League, Pukekohe, has circularised local bodies, seeking support of its objective to prevent the further influx of Asiatics to, the Dominion, and suggesting that representations be made ,tp the Prime Minister and members of Parliament. The matter came before the HatUaki Plains County Council yesterday. Cr. Walton moved tha.t the council, recognising the danger to New Zealand social and economic standards of civilisation by tlie, influx off Asiatics, resolves to urge upon the Government the urgent necessity for a stricter control of the admittance of Asiatics to New Zealand. This was supported by Councillor Mayn, but Cr. Parfitt urged tha.t the resolution was not" drastic enough. He would favour supporting the aims of the league to the utmost. Cr. Hicks favoured merely receiving the letter. Cr. Miller supported the motion, and said that the admittance should be prohibited at any time when the number appeared to be. menacing to the Dominion. Cr. Mayn spoke at length on the. habits of the Hindu and said that for a long time he had thought, of bringing the matter of their exclusion before' the Goverment through the council. There was. no doubt that the la.rge influx was a very serious menace to the Dominion. Cr. Madgwick supported the motion. Cr. Walton said that a, note of caution should be struck. The question was before the best brains of Britain and no solution had yet! been reached. New Zealand could not very well take the drastic steps of United States of America,. It should proceed cautiously, and the position should be carefully watched by the Governmemnt. The motion was c arried unanimously.
