ENGINEER’S REPORT. The Ohinemuri county engineer ty*r E. Shaw) reported at Thursday’s council meeting as, follows : — “Specifications have been approved and authority received for forming Cadma,n Road, Paeroa, and tenders are called for the work, closing at 2 p.m. this day. Levels were taken Ifor deepening and widening 60 chains of the Komaja outfall, drain, and '■finders were called and the work let to M. Lovich for £135. “Grants for maintenance under main highways for the current year, 192627, have been forwarded ; also brief specifications for the expenditure of same;. “Grants for the current year are required by the Public Works Department and the Mines Department to be in Wellington by June 15. You will note in correspondence that will come before you to-day that the monetary allocation shows a very small amount available —only sufficient to cover the balance of unexpended grants from last year—£l7ss. “All the metal authorised by the council has been delivered with the exception of 100 yards at Waikino township. This amount has been on order for some. time. An extra, 50 yards of rough metal are required for Kaimanawa Wharf Road, which can be; obtained from the Hikutaja ogarftr. “Damage sustained through the recent flood was not so extensive as might have been anticipated from the hejavy fa,U of rain, although instances of minor damages, by slips and washouts are known. The worst daitage was done at the Golden Cross, through a.n erosion that had taken place on the lower side of the road. At this point it .will be necessary .to place a groyne to divert the stream. Several slips have a,lso occurred and the scouring out of ones of the creeks, dropping the bridge into same. This bridge will require longer stringers for the present, until scouring ceases, and then, a permanent bridge can be erected. Also, the bridge at the waterfall at Waikino. on the main Wajhi road was washed away, SectMltating closing the road Ifor one a,nd a half days while a new structure; was erected. Mar.atoto Road received minor damage. A washout, occurred on Crean’s Road, Waihi. Considerable damage; wag done to the metal surfacing of the Paeroa-Waihi main road in places between Waltete Crflel, Waihi, and the Paeroa borough boundary through the river overflowing and scouring away the fine metal. "The Kaimanawa, wharf has been damaged by a steamer colliding with same. I ha.ve brought the matter under the notice of the Public Works Department, which, I understand, has control of the wharf.’’ Cr. Robinson moved that, the matter of securing 50 1 yards of metal for the Kaimanawa riding, as recommended by the engineer, •be left to him to attend to. —Carried.

In regard to flood damage, the chairman said that, this hah been attended to, as it was the policy of the council to repair any damage as quickly as possible,' to prevent further damage occurring. With reference to the Kaimahawa wharf, the engineer was instructed to treat the matter as urgent.
