CATHOLIC CHURCH.
MISSION SERVICES. CLOSING ON SUNDAY, JUNE 13. The, periodical Mission is an important feature ot Catholic Church life. By a Mission, here, is meant a course of sermons, instructions, and religious exercises, bailed on a definite plan and with a definite, object in view. The plan may vary according to the individual missipner, but the object is always the same, namely, the quickening and deepening of the Spiritual Life. To this end, the intellect, will-, and heart are; rea.ched by the sermons and instructions, which enlighten, fortify, and move or encourage, to action. Then the whole moral being is tone,d up, strengthened, and consolidated by the religious exercises—principally the Holy Mass ii,nd the Sacraments.
On last Sunday such a Mission was opened in St. Mary’s. Church with very satisfactory results. The. attendance at all the services had been exceptionally good, it being quite, evident that the people have thoroughly entered into the spirit, of the; Mission. The. Rev. missioner is an eloquent, forceful, and practical exponent of the truths of Faith and of the principles a.nd applications of the Divine Law. One can readily understand that those who “make, the mission” must considerably benefit by it. The Mission will continue for another week, and will be brought, to a close on Sunday, June 13.
