PAEROA AND ITS POST OFFICE.

(To the Editor.) Sir,—ln my humuble opinion the new Post Office is ,a credit, to the town, and certainly goes a long way to improving the appearance the main street. I also think thq council is making an excellent job in reforming the road and footpaths in the immediate vicinity of the new building. What also strikes the casual observer is the nice little patch of Lawn in front of the new Council Chambers. On viewing .the above improvements, however, they remind one of a new seat in a well worn pair of trousers, especially so when one sees the rest of Paerda. We have all lately been disturbed by facts al unemployment in all parts of New Zealand, and I believe we; have unemployed with us here. In this connection th- Government has requested public bodies to do their utmost in providing work for these unfortunate men. I would suggest, therefore, that the Paeroa Council now ha,s an excellent opportunity of providing employment by having a. genera? clean-up in the; majority of our streets, the footpaths of which certainly‘need attention to enable one to walk with comfort and do away with dodging numerous puddles of water and mud. Tar and sand sepm things of the past with us. It also surprises me to see the amount of free grazing on the roadsides. Could this not be cleaned up next haymaking? One street in particular, .near the Druids’ Hall, is flanked by a very deep drain which is full of months ace to public health, and not too ace to public health and not too sweet-smelling at times. I hcfpe the. above remarks will be taken in the spirit they are made, and tha,t those worthy gentlemen elected by the suffering ratepayers to guard their interests will act and give effect as much a.s possible to the Government’s urgent request, and also endeavour to give us a town we may all take a pride in. ADVANCE.
