GAME ON THE PLAINS. NGATEA DEFEATS PAEROA. The Ngatea ladies’ 1 hockey team played its second match of'the season on Saturday last, defeating the P.aeroa, team by three goals to niL Willingness on.the part, of both teamjs was one of the chief characteristics of the play. Ngatea’s ’form showed considerable improvement and better combination, and less aimless hitting of the ball contributed largely to its success. The Paeroa team put up. a strong defence, and much good tackling was done. There its: still a tendency on the pa-rt of players to bunch together, resulting in. useless muddling. When the ball was in the circle not nearly enough attempt was made by the attacking team to force it through the goal. Valuable opportunities .to score'were thus lost The Paeroa .team lost many advantages by far too frequent breaches of the stick rule.. ' The teams were as 'follows: — Paeroa. —L. McKee, HL Shand, N. Finnic, G. Finnie, V. Shdnd, B. Gibb, F. Shaw, C. Swann, N. Morland, M. Tierney, P. Treanor. ‘ Ngatea.—M. Quintal), D. Wade, E. Wheeler, G. Quintali, H. Costello, M. Miller, D.'Miller, P. Hayward, G. McKerchar, L.' Birkenhead, Mrs Bertelisen. - Gcals were scored by D. Miller, E. Wheeler, and G. Quintali. ■Mr W. B. Gillespie was referee.
