COUNTY CHAIRMEN.
OHINEMURI COUNTY. CR. H. M. CORBETT ELECTED. The annual meeting of the Ohinemuri Cbunty Council was held at noon to-daj? there being present Crs. W. F. Johnstone, H. M. Corbett, A. D. McGuire, F. C. Hubbard, A. R. Robinson, C. Mason, R. R. Mcirrison, C. E~ Mace, a,nd C. Hands. The clerk (Mr R. W. Evans) presided, and after explaining that the meeting was a statutory one called for the purpose of electing a chairman, he invited nominations for that position. Cr. W. F. Johnstone (retiring chairman) said that it gave him much pleasure in proposing Cr. H. M. Corbett, who had served the council long and faithfully for many years, and who had also been. • a capable, fair, a : nd progressive chairman on a previous occasion. Cr. C. Hands seconded. Cr. F. C. Hubbard proposed Cr. A. R. Robinson''for the position. In doing so he said tha,t Cr. Robinson had previojusly filled the office with distinction and credit. Cr. A. D. McGuire seconded. There being no further nominations the voting was taken by a show of .hands, which resulted in Cr. Corbett being elected, the voting being: For Cr. Corbett: Crs. Johnstone, Hands, Morrison, Mason ; for Cr. Robinson : Crs. Hubbard, McGuire, and MaceThe two members nominated did not vote. In thanking the members for the honour accorded him Cr. Corbett sajd that he could claim a fair experience of the council’s affairs, and the members and ratepayers knew him well. While holding the position of chairman he would deal fairly with every portion of the. county and every ratepayer, and would administrate fearlessly and without'favour. The council could not afford to allow pettiness or rivalry to with judgment and wisdom, and he hoped for and expected the help and co-opera-tion of each councillor. In conclusion the chairman said that he would put his best endeavours into his work and at all times do what he could to assist and promote the progress of the county and the ratepayers. (Applause.)
. Cr. Robinson extended- his congratulations: to the chairman, to whom he said he would give his loyal support and cotoperation in all matters that were right and proper a,nd in the best interests of the ratepayers.
HAURAKI PLAINS. | CR. E. L.' WALTON ELECTED. At the special meeting of the Ha.uraki Plains County Council held at Ngatea to-day Cr. E. L. Walton was elected chairman unopposed.
