NORMANBY ROAD.
WORK NEAR NEW POST OFFICE. FOOTPATH ANDROAD COMPLETED An exceptionally busy scene has presented itself since: Monday morning in Normanby Road in the vicinity of the new post office. Nine men, four drays, two motor lorries, and the roa,d roller have been engaged on road, a,nd footpath construction work in this area, and a transformation has taken place in that time. By to-night it is anticipated that little will, remaip. to be done to have a street a,nd footpath in that locality which will be a, credit to the town, and in keeping with the splendid new building. Asi soon as it became known definitely . that the Hon. J. G. Coates, Prime Minister, would officially olpen the new post office on Thursday the Mayor (Mr W. Marshall) .took the work of superintending the completion of the street and footpath in hand himself. As a result of additional men being put on, and each man encouraged to put his back into his job a,nd make a special effort to get it done, much has been accomplished. As quickly ais: the ground for the carriage-way in front of the building was; rolled to consolidation metal was spread, and this in turn was roiled. Sand a.nd fine gravpl have been carted Ifrom Karangahake and Hikutaia, aud ■ some red'metal has been procured from the dump at the Puke, ■ Tile footpath has been built up to permanent level, tolled, and sanded. A portion of Norma,ny Board has also been scarified and rolled. Although much has been done in» a short time, the greater portion of the work is of a permanent nature.
