A DIVIDED MIND.

SABBATH DAY OBSERVANCE. PRESBYTERIAN OPINION. SYDNEY, May -20. The Genera), Assembly of the Presbyterian Church' discussed at length the committee’s, report on Sabbath Day observance. The report declared .that any use of the Day of Rest which deprived, or helped to deprive, another of .his rest thereon, or unfitted one for the next day’s or next week’s duties, or any use of the day which led one to forget or disregard its 'essentially religious purpose, was wrong. Dealing with sport, the report declared that while many see no wrong in a game''of tennis, golf, footba.ll, or such-like., sports on the Lord’s D,ay, those, who wish to retain the priceless privilege -of the. weekly Day df Rest will do all in their power to discountenance. sport a,nd pleasure-making thereon. Referring to Sunday picnicking, the report said that whether qr not there was any sin in picnicking as such, taking children from church or Sunday School must have an evil effect. The Continental Sunday robbed the day of its, value as a Day of' Rest, and, therefore, should be strenuously opposed. The discussion revealed a divided mind on the subject and the necessity of the Church pronouncing very definitely thereon. Finally the report was referred back to the committee for report to the next General Assembly.
