A remarkable apcident occurred one night recently on the road near the Balance Bridge (says the Mahawatu Times), when a five-seater light car was blown over the cliff into 35 feet of water. The driver wag IMr McCool, of Ta.rarua, and he had got out to crank the car after the engine had stopped, when a gust lifted the vehicle literally out of his hand and hurled it into the river below. A 'fellow traveller, who yvas just in advance of. Mr McCool, seeing- that he had not crossed the. bridge, went 1 back to investigate and found the owner without his car.
