PAEROA’S PORT.
INCREASED BUSINESS' AT PUKE. THE RUSH SEASON OVER. ♦ The shipping business at the Ngahina wharf, Puke, Paeroa, has been very busy during the past three months, and the returns show a considerable increajs'e on the business; handled for the corresponding period for last year. On Monday the auxiliary scow Torea, from Auckland, brought ca,ses of benzine, 170' drums of cyanide, 20 tons of coal, and a quantity of general cargo. The greater portion of the benzine cargo was trans 1 - ‘ferred on to a, barge for transhipment to Te. Aroha. The Torea left the Puke on the return journey on Wednesday morning, taking a cargo of 100 bales of flax and generaj cargo. With .the approach of the winter months the shipments, of butter from Te Aroha, and cheese fropi Manawaru and Hikutaia, have slackened off. The inward cargo, however, is still being steadily maintained. During ,the past six -weeks there has been a considerable improvement in the depth of water in the Waihou River, and the vessels have experienced no difficulty in negotiating the channels.
