FOOTBALL MISHAPS.
- PLAINS PLATERS INJURED. f * LEG AND RIBS BROKEN. Two, serious accidents marred the Waitakaf uru-Ngatea • senior. footbail match at Ngatea on Saturady. Mt L. Cotter had his right leg broken ,a fewinches above the ankle, and Mr K. McCollum had two of his ribs broken. Both were members of the 'Ngaj.ca team.: It appears that Gottjer wa,s collared and brought to- the ground. In attempting to free his leg, which was. caught under his opponent, he broke the shin bone; McCollum went down to stop a loose rush, and apparently was kicked. W' The accident to Cotter occurred in the second quarter, and first aid was rendered by Mr a<nd Mrsj Costello and others, the outfit belonging ,to the i Ngatea club coming in very hajidy. felThe Turna doctor was called, but on ' arrival he deemed it unnecessary to 5- have the Splints, removed until the * patient got to the hospital. There he. was- taken in a light Ford truck,' and an X-ray examination disclosed tha,t the break w.as a clean one. ■ McCollum was injured during the third quarter, and after first aid he was removed to Mr Costello’s| house. ' Cotter was the star back of the Ngatea team and of the Hauraki representatives* .and he'had a, very good chance oft being included In the. Thames Valley representative team. His loss will be keenly felt.
