FIRE PREVENTION.
POSITION AT TAHARU HOMES. 0 The inadequacy of the water suppV for fire-fighting purposes at the dis;trict homes. Tararu, Thames-, wats brought before the Thames Hospital Board at its meeting on Monday. The superintendent of the homes in his monthly report to the board stated: “The recent destructive fire near the. homes proves conclusively that the water supply is absolutely useless for' fire-fighting purposes. I tremble to think what might, happen if a fire started at the nomesi with no water available. We; have two fiie extinguishers, .on the premises which need overhauling, and I recommend tha ; t they be tested and refilled if necessary.” The chairman (Mr W. E. Hale) said that there was a, four-,inch main to Tararu. In reply to Mr J. W. Dauby the chairman said he thought that the buildings were adequately insured. The secretary stated that the total insurances- on the homes was £3185, and on the liospital £14,200. Firedrill was, being carried out at the hospital, and the hose and hydrants were, tested at the hospital every month. The chairman suggested that the fire brigade should be aislced to report on the water supply. The board would then be in a better position to approach the Borough Council and ask for an improyejnent .to the service. Mr A. R. Robinson', seconded the resolution. It was also resolved' that the secretary be authorised to' .have the exI tinguishers attended to.-
