WORKS IN THE COUNTY.

RETORT OF ENGINEER. STEADY PROGRESS MAINTAINED. The 'following report was submitted by the engineer (Mr E. Shaw) to a meeting of the Ohinemuri County Council on Thursday la,st. “The following works were laid 01 and sent for approval : Metalling portion of Rotokohu Road, and forming portion of Cadman Road. A resolution of the council, in regard to the maintenance of the former work will be necsesary before the authori y can be given. The works that have been completed are: Access thioug section 42, block Xll'l., Ohinemuri (Leopold’s) ; access to sections 56 and 61 block XVI., Ohinemuri (Davidson’s) ; and the first course o>f metal (five inches) on the main highway at Waitoki. I propose at an early date, to roll and blind the letter work. There will be sufficient money available out of the amount authorised to complete the second course of the meta, Hing next summer. “The estimates for the 1926-27 are 'required hy the Public Works De partment for the main hiighways un der this council’s control, and same are to be in the - hands of the department at an nearly date. “The approaches to .the. overhead bridge across the railway line on the Old Tauranga Road have been completed, and the bridge is now in use by the public. “The following roads have been rounded up with the grader: Waihi riding : Pukewera, Tierney’s, and Trig roads, and portions' of Old Taurapga and Whangamata (west end) roads; Waikino riding: Portion df Waitawheta and F.arrelly’s Roads. “The crusher has worked steadily during the month and the metal for the various roads has been delivered. A large portion has been placed on the roads; and the balance stacked alongside for repairs later. Should the weather remain fine I intend closing the crusher down in a few days and removing the roller to Waitoki to complete the work .there, and ihen scarify that portion of the PaeroaTe Aroha Main Highway between the Tirohia quarry .tramline and Hennah’s: Hill, which was left .till the carting of the metal to Waitoki was completed. I propose then completing the scarifying of Thames Road. “Longitudinal and cross sections were taken of the proposed deviation of Snakey Bend at Mangaiti, and the approximate cost to form and metal same would be £714.”
