THE FUTURE OF PAEROA.
(To the Editor..) Sir,—When .listening to the addresses delivered at the opening of the new municipal ,chambers 1 had. aL most decided to buy some more, of our city sections, until coming down from the sky line I remembered the titern facts of the Loro,ugh by-laws and rates. I also remembered that much of the ;same kind of. thing about the future was said at the. cpen;ng of the Cpuhty Chambers. Paeroa will of cours,e !;■/ the-“hub of the wheel,” Auckland will be part of the rim, and Te . Aruba/one of the suburbs. And then, again, as, I looked st the new building stretching its magnificent dimensions ' agajnst the ■western horizon,, in the distance. I could see a diminutive and brick post office standing guard over a :: ti ncture shaped like an. umbrella. “Then,” said T, “behold, what ma.nner of men are these Pearoans, who admit having the best part of one million pounds spent among them, and the end is not yet.” And then, again, I thought bn, I remembered also that several human s - beings • constituted muchly ais I am ahd desired, of me cngdoynient and' assistance' to keep their scute from vacating their bodily chambers, and I said, has this Paeroa been built up' by these men? And across the-ether ;ca.me the answer: “Yes, as these.” “Then, said 1, “if Paeroa would maintain its presperity it must care for t,hese ‘bottom dogs. ” Wherefore. I humbly suggest that the Mayors and their deputies be allowed to expend .a given sum in affording temporaryv employment. and thus assist -the shopkeepers to pay all rent, interest?, and taxes; and some wages when, necessary-, < - -■' CITIZEN.
