NOXIOUS WEEDS.
LOCAL RESIDENT CONVICTED. COMMENTS OF MAGISTRATE. At the Magistrate’s Court, Paeroa, this morning, before Mr J. H. Salmon, S.M., Lewis Emanuel:' Caiss.re.ls, as one of the executors' df the estate of the late Mr Asher was proceeded' against by Mr J. P. Findlay, noxious weed inspectQr, for failing to clear certain sections within the borough of noxious weeds. The inspector said that he had ijo.'ved CatJsreJs with, notices to clear the land of blackberry, but nothing had been done. The. information was: laid against the estate’is town sections. r ■ ' Defendant said that ho was spending 4'rOin £lOO to £l5O 'a year on clearing blackberry. A mad had been engaged on the work for three months this year. He admitted that he had not given the town sections much attention, as the estate was a very La.rge one and he had been concentrating on the farm areas. The Magistrate, said he appreciated the difficulties, but. defendant mus.t obey the notices to clear. He. suggested that the sections should be cleared and then sold. Defendant said it w r as no fault of' his that the town sectons were not sold. One section or a, Government valuation of £9OO had been offered at £6OO, but no sale had' been effected. The estate, could not afford .to pay la'rge amounts, for clearing noxious weeds. -
The. Magistrate said that, in view of it being a first offence, a conviction would be entered, together with a fine of £2, .and costs 7s. ' The. Bench pointed out that, the convicton did not relieve the estate of clearing the sections of noxious weeds.
