POWER BOARD MEMBER.

RETIREMENT OF MR. P. GRACE. APPRECIATION OF SERVICES. At the conclusion of the busines at the special meetipg of the Thames Valley Electric Power Board meeting at Te Aroha. on Friday last Mr P. Grace, representative of the Ohinemuri County Council <xn the board, formally .tendered his resignation. < In accepting the. resignation the chairman (Mr F. H. Claxton) said that he did so with genuine regret. Mr Grace, had attended the meetings regularly for a number of years-) and it wa.s to be regretted tha,t he could not, see his way .to carry on for 'a further term. Mr Grace had proved himself to be a live man wno had rendered valuable service.

Mr F. E. Flatt (Paeroa) said that he had been closely associated with Mr. Grace in public a,flairs for nearly twenty years, and had always found him to be a man of sound judgment, broad vision, and jstrict .integrity. On behalf of the people of Paeroa he thanked Mr Grace for .the good work he had done, not only on the board, but in many other directions. Mr F. M. Strange (Te Arbha) added his quota of prajsje, and said that while he had been associated with Mr Grace on the Ohinemuri Count}’ Council Mr Grace had always- shown tact and .firmness, .and his- knowledge of affairs pertaining to .the welfare of the district had been carried out'with, ability and discretion..- Through the effort? of- Mr Grace the county had overcome many difficult problems satisfactorily. .. Mr J. Bohlen (Matamata), in expressing his regret l that the board was to lose a member, said that Mr Grace had displayed judgment in advancing the board's operations. Mr G. Howie (Morrinsville) said that Mr Grace, was a man after his own heart. The. departing member did not get up and .talk for half-’an-hour, but when he did spefak he .wks worth listening to, and! he held the respect and esteem of the members. . Mr W. E. G. Willy (Haura,ki Plains) said that the ratepayers: of his. county, and particularly those in the Netherton riding, which had formerly been in the Ohinemuri County, would be sorry to hear of Mr Gracejs retirement, a.nd on their behalf he wished to voice sincere thanks and appreciation of hjs services. On the motion of the chairman it. was resolved to place on record appreciation of .the,services rendered to the board by Mr Grace. ,' In acknowledging the eulogistic remarks accorded him Mr Grace said that it was very gratifying to lea.rn that hits: efforts had been appreciated, -and he had only tried to carry out his duty to the ratepayers. His reason for resigning his, position on .the board was on account, of now living outside the district
