DRUIDS DEFEAT ODDFELLOWS.

The. isinall crowd of spectators on the Paeroa Domajn last Saturday were treated to games of football which, apart from mistakes inseparable from early matches in the season. were-keenly fought and interesting ’throughout. The weather conditions were perfect. The proceeds of tlie matches were in aid of the Paeroa Benevolent Society.

In thejcurtain-rajser, a thiid-grade match, School v. West, tlie school team gave a creditable exhibition against-their older and .weightier op-, ponents and emerged victors by thiee points (penalty, goaj by H. Keanoy) to nil. The Lodge teams, were as follows . Druids. —Mead, Nield, L. Verrap, -Walls, Treanor, C. ■ Nield, N. Neil, Hardman, Radford, Wilton, E. Neil, -Shaw, Afriglo, Wright. ’ Oddfellows.—Pullar, Byrne, Swann, Smith, Ratcliffe, Currie, Patterson, •Morrison, Carrick, Morrow, R. Smith, Grant, Sly field. T]ie game was, evenly fought throughout, the teams alternatively giving patches of fast play. The first, half ended with Oddfellows leading by 5 ta O as the result of fast following up by Carrick, which enabled Slyiield to score- well, out. Swann conveited. Currie (Oddfellows) was. replaced, by Vincent. In the third quarter Radford scqred for Druids and Morrison crossed the. line for Oddfellows, -but neitner try was converted- Oddfellows 8, Druids 3- In the last, quarter,, which was keenly contested, an unconverted try by Hardman made the Druidis: G, and as a result of a forward rusji C. Nield scored a good try, making the final scores Druids, 9,- Odd■fellows 8. Mi- T. C. Arnold relereed the Lodge match and Mr B? Neil the third-grade match. For Druids Shaw, Angle and Radford played well in the pack, and. Hardman, Nield, Verran, and Mead were the pick of the back. Carrick, Patterson,. R. Smith,- and Morrison were, conspicuous dn the Oddfellows forwards, Swapn, D. Smith, and Pullar- being the best of the backs-. -.- - ■ It is expected that the public, .will have- an opportunity of seeing ~the Lodge teams in action later in. the season.
