THE PLUNKET SOCIETY.

NGATEA BRANCH. The three branches of the Royal Society for the Protection of' Women and Children, commonly known as the Plunket Society, held their annual meetings on the Plains this z week. At the Ngatea branch meeting on Wednesday afternoon Mrs,W. G. Hayward presided over eighteen members. The Plunket nurse's report stated that during the month of February there had been 51 attendances at rooms—32 moth ens. and 19 babies. Two homes had been visited, jand e.ne new case had been treated. fTlie health of thel babies wa,s good. During the month of March there had been 40 attendances at' rooms, 21 mothers and 19 babies. There were no new cases.

Th© annual, report presented by tbe secretary stated that the financial position had greatly improved. The thanks of the branch were due to Mr'W. White 'for having .transported the nurse from the Plains free of charge. Thanks were also due to the Library committee, and to. tlie Fall committee, for permitting the free use dfi rooms for the nurse, and for meetings. The attendances at the rooms during the year totalled 216 mothers and 178 babies.

One baby had been sent to the Auckland Katarirte Hospital tor treatment. She had since returned much improved. Mr Walton had offered the branch the free use of a room for the nurse-.and. the monthly meetings, and the offer had been gratefully accepted. The report was adopted and a vote e.f .thanks, accorded to Mr Walton. The balance-sheet showed receipts totalling £64' 18s sd, including subscriptions £4O Ils lOd, collection s£7 16s, 6d, Government subsidy £3 7is 9d, donation box £1 8s 2d,' Kerepeehi contribution £9 16s Bd, and Turua contribution £1 15s. The expenditure included salary £2's, and travelling expenses £l5 10s.' ' The credit balance was £22 Os 6d, compared with £lO at the end of the previous year. ’ •

Officers appointed for the year were: President, Mrs, W. G. Hayward : secretary, Mrs, J. Motion ; treasurer, Misis E l . McDuff; executive committee, Mes,dames Parfitt, Irwin, Coppins,' McDuff, Dudding, Terrill, Vowlcs, McCarthy, McTaggart, and the president and'secretary ; advisory board, Messrs Walton, Waite, Foster, Wylde, Motion, and Hayward. A vote of thanks was .accorded the retiring officers, and also.- Mr. R. Corijthwaite for the donation of U suitable box for the storage, of crockery. !
