FOOTBALL.

PAEROA RUGBY UNION. MEETING OF COMMITTEE. The first meeting of the newly elected management committee of the Paeroa Rugby Union was. held last night, the chairman (Mr W. Pennell) presiding over the following: Messrs J. H. Walmsley, K. L. Slyfield, J. Rackham. J. Wilson, W. Morrison, E. Shaw, and J. M. Crosby (secretary). Mr L. V. Lloyd was also present as, a delegate from the East Club. OFFICIALS. The following additional officials for the (season were appointed : Treasurer, Mr W. Pennell, who, together with the secretary, was authorised to operate on the bank account; gatekeeper, Mr B. Sheriff; official timekeepers, Messrs H. E. Butler and E. V. Slyfield (Paeroa) ; R. H. Heappey’ and C. H. Potter (Netherton) ; G. Avery and A. W. Alley (Hikutaia) ; and W. Bramble (Karanga,hake). First-aid attendants,, Messrs W. T. Power and Davies. . OPENING DAY. It was decided to officially open, the reason on Saturday, April 17, the senior fixtures to be East v. Suburbs at Paeroa and West and Netherton at Netherton. TIME OF STARTING?. Mr Wilson drew attention to the delay that frequently occurred in starting the matches last season, and suggested that the union should insist on teams taking the field at the advertised time. The chairman agreed, and pointed out that drastic action would have to be taken this season. The public w:as entitled to consideration, and’it was a decidedly bad practice, apd.not in the interests of football to allow the habit to continue. It was resolved that any team failing to take the field within I's minutes of the starting .time would be required to forfeit > the game. Also that referees. : ,i>e-..asked to adhere strictly to the conditions. SCHOOL FOOTBALL. Mr Walmsley said* that he thought it was desirable for school football to have direct representation at the committee meetings. The chairman' explained tha,t the primary schools had a union of their own. It was, resolved to advise the Primary Schools Union that the committee would welcome a representative at all meetings. WEIGHT OF PLAYERS. ■ Messrs Walmsley and Shaw were appointed to officially weigh thirdgrade players and to issue certificates to the clubs concerned. It was decided .to adhere to the maximum weight being 9st 81b, and not to exceed Ost 121 b during the (Season. ■ ’ •- SELECTORS. Selectors of. irepretsentative' teams were appointed follows : Seniors, Mr W- * White; Pagi-qa/; juniors, Mr JPalmer, Karangahake; third-grade, Mr E. Shaw, Paeroa.; PROMOTION OF PLAYERS. The question df promoting players, to a higher grade was discussed at length, and it wa,s generally agreed that conditions, prevailing last season were very unsatisfactory.

Mr Sha ; w. instanced a number of playemr who had played third grade during the season and who later played senior in'the bapner competition.

Mr Wilson pointed out that unless the juniors were promoted there would be no room for the third-grade players who became too heavy. It was, decided to take a definite stand on receipt of the registrations? for the season. HONORARY SURGEONS.

Mr Slyfield drew attention to the fact that on several occasions the local doctors ha<d attended. ..playeqs who had been injured in.gajncs and had made no charge for the services, rendered. ■ It was decided to place on record tlie union’s appreciation of the assistance given, and to as/k Drs; Little and Smith to become honorary surgeons. CHAIRMAN’S THANKS.

The chairmap said that he wished to place on record his hearty thanks to last year’s committee tor the assistance given him, and also to thank tlie members for again electing him chairman. He looked forward with keen anticipation to a son this year, and with l the .help and co-operation of the new committee he wa : s desrous of raising the standard of the game in the district. In conclusion, he reminded the meeting that he was not there for the purpose of grinding an axe'for any particular club, but that he wfciuld feel it his duty to rule fairly and impartially in the. best interests of .the game. ODDFELLOWS V. DRUIDS. MATCH AT DOMAIN TO-MORROW. At a meeting of the committee of the Paeroa Rugby Union held last night a letter was received from the local Friendly Societies asking per-’ mission for the Paeroa Oddfellows and Druids to play a match ( on the local domain to-morrow afternoon. The letter contained the suggestion that the match should be controlled by the union, and that the proceeds from the gates, less expenses, should be handed to the Paeroa. Benevolent Society.

Mr K. L. SlyfieM, representing the friendly societies; explained that an .endeavour was being made to arrange for a curta,in-raiser, the teams to be third-grade, drawn >from the School and East combined versus West. After some discussion Mr J. H. Walmsley moved that permission be granted, and the union .accept responsibility for the match. Seconded by Mr Rackham, who Suggested that the proceeds should be handed direct to a deserving case.

Nield, N., E., and B. NeiL J. Mathieson. Mr T. C. Apioid has been appointed to refferee the senior game and Mr Eugene Shaw the third-grade game. MATCHES ON THE PLAINS. Football will commence on the Hauraki Plains to-morrow, when the. first inter-club matches of the season are set down ‘for play. The Ngatea teams aie to travel ito Waitakaruru, the Turua teams to the West club’s ground, and the Kerepeehi team to the Coast club's ground. For the opening football matches on the Plains for the season which will be played to-morrow, the following refereeis have been appointed by the Refereesi’ Association : Turua v. West, at West, Messrs D. G. McMillan (seniors) and F. Stretton (juniors) ; Ngatea v. Waitakaruru, at Waitakaruru, Rev. W. W. Averill; Coast v.’ Kerepeehi, at Coast, Mr G. T. Davidson.
