RUGBY FOOTBALL MATCHES.
THE POSITION AT NETHERTON.
Commenting on ithe gate receipts, at the various, centres, at which football matches were played last season, at the Paeroa Rugby Union meeting last week Mr V. Young drew attention to the fact that the balamce-sh&et had disclosed that Hikutaia had collected £8 Is, whereas the Netherton centre showed only £2 4s 3d. He jocularly suggested that Netherton should transfer its headquarters to Hikutaia;. In reply Mr C. H. Potter congratulated the Hikutaia people on having isuch an energetic gatekeepei’ who collected admission fees from ladies. Continuing, Mr Potter explained that the matches at Netherton ha,d been played on private, ground last season, and a fixed charge for admission could not be made. A collection was taken up among the spectators, but while the locaj people contributed a coin, he said he had observed the visitors to ignore the hat and stand with their handsi in their pocketis; (Laughter.) A playing area had been leased for the coming season, and a, pharge for admission would be made. He hoped that a considerable increase in the. returns from Netherton would result.
