ALLEGATIONS OF FRAUD. ...
THE LONG' ARM OF GRAFT.
MELBOURNE, March 7.
During the tariff debate in the Federal House of Representatives, while dealing with the item of crude oil, Mr Walter M. Marks made serious allegations regarding what he claimed to be American ; interference in attempts to find oil, in .the Lander and Roma bores, Queensland. He declared that the report from which he quoted was presented to the diroctons; an'd showed that an expert, who- had been secured from America, had admitted he took steps to get the drillers off the field so thait he could obtain sole control; When he did ge.t 'control, he blocked the bore and exploded a charge of gelignite inside the casing. . ; The report further stated that the. expert’s reckless expenditure had,cost the company £80,060. -Furthermore/it. was alleged, that the J .documents found in his office shovzed he was sending geological, information regarding the company’s, doings to the United States ajnd had done everything possible to block the company’s work. The company had not taken criminal proceedings ahd had/hllowed the expert to return to America' out of consideration to his wifer atone.
