DISTURBANCE AT SCHOOL

MOTHER AND TEACHER.

DISCIPLINE PARAMOUNT. - Mrs Ethel Ada Haddon, laundry proprietress; of Kotuku Street,- Te Aroha, was charged before Mr J. H. Salmon, S.M.‘, at the. Magistrate’s Court at Te Aroha j on Monday last with wilfully disturbing the Te Aroha District High School and upbraiding, insulting, and’ abusing Miss Clara Christina Foote, a teacher, in the presence. and hearitig of pupils in school.

In summing up His‘ Worship said that, the two charges- came under section 163 of the Education Act. It was unnecessary to.give a finding on both, as one was included in the other. He made every allowance for the fact that Mrs Haddon was upslet. That was very natural, but the Act made ,it clear that parents must not disjturb the school or upset the teachers. He would leave out the question of the insult, because it did not take place in the teacher’s presence, but on the charge of disturbing the school Mrs Haddon was; guilty even on. her own evidence. If discipline was to be -maintained, and’in New Zealand discipline was very important, parents must not do anything subservient to that discipline, and in order to brilg that before the public Mrs Haddon would-.be convicted and fined £2 and costs.
