PRODUCTION OF PLAINS.
STATEMENTS CRITICISED. VERY GOOD RETURNS. Although it is realised that the statements made at the, meeting of farmers t at Ngatea on Tuesday, the 9th inst., to the effect that the pro-' ductions of butter-fat on .the farms, of the Plains was decreasing, were made for the purpose of! inducing the Agricultural Department official present to deal in his lecture with/ methods calculated to increase productivity, Several farmers are now of opinion that the statements’ should ha,ve been more vigorously challenged', otherwise a false impression would get abroad.
A settler who made a point of speaking to the representative of this paper stated that the herd-testing figures for his 'farm for the last six months showed an average return of 2491 b of butte.r-£at from his 76 cows. His next door neighboui-’s herd average was 2511 b for .the six months, and these farms were T>y no means the highest in the Kopuarahi district. On the matter being referred to the •Agricultural Department official, he stated that from the figures he had secured at the dairy factory he was sure -the district would show a very high state of productivity.
