PAEROA HOSPITAL.

BUILDING AGAIN DEFERRED.

MEMBERS OPPOSE DEDAY.

At Friday's meeting of the Thames Hospital and Charitable. Aid Board the question of the erection of the Paeroa hospital was again brought before the members by the Thames Borough Council drawing attention to the fact that there had been no mention in the board’s reply, to the council that an inquiry would be set up to view the altered conditions pertaining to the eretcion of a maternity and casualty hospital at P.aeroa. The following resolution, carried unanimously by the council, was forwarded “That it be pointed out that, the council had asked for on inquiry in connection with the proposed expendi- . ture. for a .maternity hospital at Paeroa, in view of altered conditions and the recurring loss in Thames and Other places. The demand for admission to the Thames maternity annexe is so small that it indicates that, there is ample accommodation for prospective mothers from the whole of the hospital district. The department and board are. therefore most strongly urged to’ defer proceeding with the proposed maternity hospital at Paeroa.”

The chairman (Mr W. E. Hale) intimated that the matter could wiell be left’in abeyance until, the visit, of the Director-General. Mr C. W. Kennedy said that it was only a, quibble, and a very unfair advantage for the council to take. It was only a. “mark time” until the new. board was elected. It was most, unfair that the council should adopt such an attitude, and he was desirous of recording his protest at the attitude adopted. ' Mr G. Death added his protest, and said the council’s attitude wa.s mean in the extreme. V The people ofe Ohinemuri had carried the Thames hospital on their hacks for yea.rs wjthout crying out about expenditure.

Mr W. J. Hall endorsed-the remarks of the previous speakers, and asked particularly that hits: protest at the attitude of the Thames people should be recorded. .

On the motion of the chaiTman, seconded by Mr Lange, .the matter wa : & held in abeyance. .Messrs Kennedy, Dearth, and Hall dissented.
