MINING ACTIVITY.
RESUMPTION OF WORKS.
OPERATIONS, AT THE RISING SUN.
Owharoa, which, upwards) o' 40 or 50 years ago, was somewhat famous, from a. mining viewpoint, is once .again assuming an active interest. In the past a large quantity ofi gold has been won from Owharoa. Before the Rising Sun mine was ever thought of a battery was at work .there, and some remarkably good results) were from time to time recorded by the Farmer Bros, and, others) who had claims in the district. It is' believed by those who have a knowledge of that district .that there are yet; some rich' reefs ip the vicinity other than . the .Rising Sun, but they require to be unearthed, and that can only be accomplished'by. systematic prospecting. Therefore, it ip’ hoped that if the promoters of a bat tew for Karangahake are successful they will turn their attention to investigating Owharoa as .well as Karangahake. The Waihi Daily Telegraph states .that, after a lapse of about four weeks active operations have been resjuihed' at the Rising Sun 'mine at Owharoa, and the - manager reports .that everything is working smoothly, with a steady supply of quartz coming forward to the mill. As soon a® the rise in the south block (No. 1 reef) holes through to No; 2 level, which will be in from three to' four weeks, a second crushing'shift will be put on at the battery, after which an effort will be made to mine sufficient quartz to work the mill continuously foh three shifts. The various blocks show no material change, and looking well, and" with the addition 1 of others being put in working order, it is expected that higher grade returns will be obtained. MUIR’S REEF, TEJ PUKE. > .The mine at Te Puke is also to be re-opened after being closed down, for a. considerable time. The pumps, had to be ordered from England, and. will arrive .in a few weeks’ time,; when the water <will - soon - be lifted. When this is/done it is intended to continue driving for the Massey reef,'and sinking the winze which :is following Muir ? s reef down from the lowest workings where payable ore was previously obtained.
