METAL OR FERRY.
A DEPARTMENTAL EVASION. At the November meeting o2 the Hauraki Plains County Council Cr. McLoughlin, ' desiring to have some definite statement - from the Lands Department as.to ’the provision ; of a bridge over the Piako River at the Ngarua landing or the metalling of the Puhanga Canal road, moved that the Minister of Lajids be asked what outlet it, was intended to provide this winter for the’settlers of the Kaihero and Patetonga districts.
At yesterday’s meeting of the Hauraki Plains County Council a. reply was received loathe letter. The Minister said he presumed that the inquiry referred to the Kaihere road, 1 and proceeded to explain that this toad had been or was being metalled. .The final clause drew 1 attention th the fact thaf the last . two miles'.of the road to Kaihere were, being cut up, and the-maintenance was a matter for the county, the' road having been handed over after; metalling.. Cr. McLoughlin stated that the department had taken pains Jx> e-vacte the question. He moved that the clerk ■ write to the Minister of Lands and ask him to provide a ferry at Ngarua, as promised by the fton. Mr Guthrie, or to metal the road from Kaihere right ’to Ngatea. , ■The motion was carried. .
