GIG ACCIDENT.

MISHAP ON PUKE ROAD.

YOUNG LADIES THROWN OUT. As Misses P. and K. Hill, daughters of MrH.k Hill, Awaiti, Netherton, were driving home from P.aeroa, in a gig early last evening they met with rather an unusual accident. When they were Thorp’s residence, on Puke Road, they pulled well on to the side, of the road to air low a motor-car to pass. Apparently the fast-moving. c.ar frightened the horse, - as. he. suddenly increased his pa.ee. Without any warning a portion of. the harness gave way, with the result that the gig tipped backwards', emptying the occupants on to the roa&< By this time the animal had become . thoroughly frightened, and, finding ,hims,ejf without control, he kicked himself free from the vehicle and. careered out to Awaiti. Fortunately the Misses Hill escaped with ' nothing more serious than bruises and, scratches and a good shaking, and were able to proceed to their home later on in the evening.

The gig was badly smashed, and the horse wais' cut about the hind legs.

When speaking of the accident Miss Hill, one of the victims, commented on the fact that after the occurrence several motorists passed by, but made no attempt to stop and offer assistance, although the damaged gig was piled up on the roadside. '
