TURUA.
BAND DANCE. To raise, funds with which to purchase more instruments the, Turua Brass Band held a dance in the Victoria Hall on Thursday evening. The attendance was very large, the hall being taxed to its capacity. The first waltz was played by the band, and many of the. bandsmen played for the qther dances. Mrs Mules was at the piano. Thiis- was, the , second public appearance of the bajnd, ahd there were many favourable comments, on its efficiency. SCHOOL PICNIC. The Turua Public School held itsi annual picnic on Thursday last, the pupils being taken to New Brighton in s,even motor lorries and six motorcars. The children had a grand time, but events took an unexpected turn as they all went bathing -and stayed in the water so long that the programme of sports that had been arranged could not take place owing to lack of competitors.' A sports day will therefore be held’ later.
