ASSOCIATION FOOTBALL.
. Sir,L-The" approach'of winter brings the season of field games to the fore. Team games, of which Rugby,, our national game,, is an example, enepur-: age a spirit of unity. Patience, perseverance, stamina, seHf-control, and resource are. but a small quantity of fhe heaped measure gifted by . athletics towards. nation building. The athle'tic fields of contest contribute the great "play up”.on to. the great field of Empire. Before .the.bar of public opinion the' true aim of athletic sport stands, too often, wrongly judged. Athletics true, purpose/ dim*-, med by the brilliant light of championship supremacy, a,t all costs,'isi too often lost sight 'o’f. Rugby football cannot -appea.l to you th exclusively. 'A'game which can place the large; number of our youth from, the the line to the playing area is; worthy of support. The proposed, inauguration of a Paeroa Association Football dub will- help to "fill, the bill.” The argument is not a better code, bufi an effort to provide recreation for the youth of Paeroa -who- are nomplayers. Our domain isr'large enough; and our public numerous enough and liberal enough to help each code.,' Making “at home’’ the youth of British stock immigrating to "God’s Own Country” will be a.biEf factor in making New ZeaOhrid’s adopted people happy and Association football by i*s support is recognised ns /■’the .OKd Dart’s” game. Doubtless the support of the Paeroa Athletic Club could be enliste'd to give the movement -“a’ push.” ■■ >■ ... SOCCERITE.
