MINING REVIVAL.

ITo the Editor.}

Sir,—At least* Mr Leach is ,to be commended—be it wise or otherwise —for his effort to. resuscitate, mining at Karangahake. Well done, Davie I Mr Leach was in Karangahake in its palriiy days, but now itj is] a dead world, and has been since the Talisman ceased to find enough gold to keep its 1 works in motion. Mr Leach, was at the hea.d of a deputation of miners from Karangahake at the Chamber of Commerce meeting on Tuesday last, and of your report of the meeting I am now telling. I am of opinion that a public battery at Karangahake (say, 10 stamps), with the latest devices" for gold-saving, would be welcomed in the district. It would at least encourage the > few miners who have settled in Karangahake and have .taken up farms ,fpr a livelihood to devote some of tLeir time to prospecting. According to Mr Gwillipm, and he should be dependable authority, "there te as much gold in the mountains of Kar.ahgahafce as has been taken put.’’ Who knows ? 1 remember. years ago some exceed? ingly rich specimen leads existed, to which the. late',Mr Alf. Shepherd could testify if he were alive. Even some very' rich gold-bearing..boulders, were discovered m the river-bed. These stones, must have been washed into the river by isome. unexplainable, action ; at. any rate, ■ they must, have broken away from some .reefs, and that those reefs'must have been rich goes without saying. I hope Mr Leach’s, scheme will meet] with the support it deserves. 1 It appea.rs to me, anyhtxw, that a public, battery in Karangahake/would prove a., great boon to the district .generally, and the instillation- of new life into the once famous Karangahake. WELL WJSHBR.
