WILLIAMS CHALLENGE SHIELD. WON BY WAITAKARURU. The Williams memorial tennis challenge shield htas returned to the Plains, the Waitakaruru Club’s team having beaten .the Hiliutaia Club s team at Hikutaia, on, Saturday. This trophy was presented, to the Kopu club in 1923 to perpetuate the memory of Mr Williams,, a member of that club who was killed in Action. The Waitakaruru club issued the first challenge and had little difficulty in winning the match; but by the end of the following season .the strajn of holding the trophy became tiring and the Hikutaia team relieved them of the trophy. , Following are the scores, tlie names of the Waitakaruru playeip being mentioned first: — Men’s Singles.—G.
