A parade of the local platoon of the Hauraki Regiment is to be held at the drillshed this evening.
Messrs Wirth Bros’., Ltd., circus, menagerie, and elpphant herd are due to appear at Paeroa early in March.
“On Saturday last the Paeroa correspondent of the New Zealand Herald reported that the Kopu ferry had broken loose from the launch with two cars aboard. The owner wishes it known that this, is totally without foundation, and that the Ferry accomplished every trip safely to timetable,” says the Thames Star. The position is that on the 11.30 a.m. trip' from orongo the wind, was' so strong that it was impossible to steer with the pontoon alongside the launch. Accordingly it was towed behind, but before this change could be effected the ferry had ..drifted some distance up the river, and it was about I%’ hours reaching its destination. The 1.30 p.m. and 2.30 p.m. trips from Kopu and the 2 p.m. and 2.30 p.m. trips from lOrongo were not run on account of the gale.
