DISTRICT NEWS.
NGATEA. THE TENNIS COURTS. The Ngatea Tennis Club’s four chip tennis courts are rapidly approaching completion. From their present appearance they promise to be splendid courts.. Though the work has been delayed by the lack of materials, this has eben of great benefit, as the cliiy has had .the weathering of. the recent rains, which, together with a great deal of rolling with a flve-ltwi 'roller, has produced a surface as smooth and as even ;us' a ( table, yet very springy. Some draught horses, galloped over the courts last week, to the consternation of the contractors, who live near, but investigation failed to find traces of their hopfmarks. Since the club altered its'decision from concrete to clay and chip courts there has been much adverse criticism and predictions of failure, but some of the critics., since seeing the uncompleted work, have become very enthusiaiStic supporters of what to this district is an innovation in tennis court construction, and now predict .that other clubs will follow suit before long.
