LANDS DEPARTMENT’S ACTION.
WAITAKARURU CANAL ROAD.
At the monthly meeting of ithe Hauraki Plains County Council on Tuesday a letter was read from the chief drainage engineer advising that preparatory works were in hand, and detailed plans a,nd specifications and estimates of .the cost of metalling the road were being prepajled for the approval, of the Public Works; Department. Before the work could be undertaken, however, it would be necessary for the council to square the department’s accounts in connection with the expediture in the HorahiaOpou special drainage area, and to give an assurance that the council’te' proportion of the. cost of the metalling would be available on demand. . Cr. Harris; It is red hot. The drainage is nothing to do with the reading.
It was pointed out that the council had given authority to pay £l4'so' of the Horahia-Apou ispecial drainage loan to the department.
It was, decided that .the department be asked to expedite, the work, aiid that the assurance that the money would be available be given.
