PLAINS WATER SUPPLY.
PIPIRGA-NGATEA AREA.
ALTERATIONS AT DAM
The following report by the Hauraki Plains County Council’s water supply engineer, Mr E. F. Adamis; o£ Thames, wa,s received by the council at its meeting on Tuesday:
"I beg to report that the drawings and documents for this, work are proceeding as fast as I can push them. “In the matter of the headworks, this was left open at the time of submitting reports and to the council with the object of deciding later the type of dam and lay-out most suitable .to the site, ajid the requirements. I find, atfer going carefully into the matter and taking further surveys and levels, that a concrete dam is practicable and economical ; that by tunnelling the spur a better route and a more satigfactoiy intake can be provided, a,nd that in addition it will be practicable to .arrange for a greater storage of water at the head than was promised in the former report.
“I have been busy on the dam design, etc., during the holidays, and since then we have lajd out the final pipe routs and line of tunnel, on the ground. All the drawings are Well underway, and we expect .to have the blue prints out for a considerable portion of the work very shortly. This matter of the headworks is one of the most important features in the whole scheme, and as such has required and received very careful attention.”
In reply .to Cr. Harris the clerk sa,id .that Mr Adams had advised him that, the alteration would lessen the cost of the scheme.
